A Letter to the Mayor of the Capital
Dear Mr. Mayor,
I am a senior in Peking University. The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is coming. After watching the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, I can not help writing to you.
Firstly, I want to give a suggestion for the preparation work of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The construction work of the sports building must be completed in time. In Athens, the swimming stadium was not completed in time so the event had to be held in the open air, which had brought negative effect on the performance of athletes. In one word, to protect the international image of China and ensure the Olympic competition, we must finish our preparation work wonderfully and punctually.
Secondly, I want to be volunteer. On the one hand, it is the duty of every Chinese to do for the 2008 Olympic Games. On the other hand, I have a good command of English language. Therefore I will be a qualified volunteer.
I am looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely yours,
Li Ming
2.On Optional Courses
1.选修课给学生带来了很多好处 2.选修课也对学生产生一些负面影响 3. 我的观点 (范文)
On Optional Courses
The discussion about optional courses has never stopped in the past few years. Its advantages and disadvantages are evident. The biggest advantage of optional courses is its variety. Students can choose any course in which they have a special interest. What’s more, optional courses often bring creative research findings or up-to-date breakthroughs, which are hardly seen in normal courses.
However, the negative effects are also obvious. To begin with, some students choose optional courses only to earn some credits or obtain a certificate –-they never put their hearts into studying the subjects. In the second place, optional courses take up too much and it is difficult for students to make the best of both worlds.
Up till now, we can see it clearly that optional course is not beneficial or harmful in itself. In my opinion, the key lies in the user—so long as we can make use of it properly, it can be most helpful for us in many respects.
3. A Letter Advocating Saving Water
You are allowed 30 minutes to write a letter to your fellow students advocating saving water. 1. 我国是个淡水资源十分匮乏的国家 2. 如何从我做起节约用水 (范文)
A Letter Advocating Saving Water
I am writing to inform all of my fellow students to save water in daily life. Our country is not rich in water resources, and possession of water resources per person in China is below the world average. In some regions of our country water is so scarce that it is hard for the people and animals to get enough water to drink. What makes it worse, the pollution of water resources by the industries is getting more serious.
Of course, our government has taken many measures to deal with this problem, and the good effect has been seen to some degree. However, that is not enough because saving water needs the participation of everyone. As college students, we have a good reason to do a better job in saving water. Here are some suggestions, and we wish all of you to follow. First of all, we wish you bear saving water in mind when using water in your daily life, for example, do not let water running without restrain when you wash dishes, clothes or have a bath. Secondly, please do not stand by when seeing the phenomenon of wasting water, do something to combat it. Thirdly, help people to form the good habit of using economically by giving wide publicity to saving water.
With the effort of everybody, we firmly believe that stern situation of water resources in our country will be alleviated gradually.
4. How to Increase Your Working Experience in the University 1. 上大学期间,大学生有必要获得一些工作经验 2. 获得工作经验的途径 (范文)
How to Increase Your Working Experience in the University
While studying in universities, students are required to make a detailed study of the knowledge in the books, certainly the academic knowledge is the foundation for future work, but it is not the only thing that students have to acquire. Some working experience is also indispensable for them to adapt themselves to the future occupations. How to increase the working experience without the sacrifice of the studies?
Firstly, I think the students should get mentally and physically prepared for the coming part-time jobs. Secondly, they should widen the scope of choices. Whenever mentioning the part-time jobs, students will inevitably think of tutoring little kids or working in the supermarkets. In fact, there are a lot of other choices, such as, working as volunteers for some associates, teaching in some underdeveloped areas, and writing articles for newspapers. Finally, write down promptly what they have learned from work. By doing so, they will be impressed deeply by that experience and make it really valuable for the future work.
In a word, working experience gained while the students are studying in universities will
benefit them throughout their life.
5. Directions:
1、 Describe the changes indicated in the table. 2、 The reasons for the change.
3、 Make predictions about the future tendency. (范文)
The period 1995~2005 witnessed a rapid increase in the number of people in City X traveling abroad. As can be seen, in 1995, only about 10,000 people in this city went overseas while in 1995 this number quickly rose to 40,000. In 2005, however the number of overseas traveler surged to over 120,000, which is more than 10 times as many as that of 1995.(变化)
This change can be accounted for by a couple of factors. First, along with social and economy progress, the living standard of the Chinese people has been greatly enhanced, so they have enough money and time to travel abroad. Meanwhile, more and more people want to enjoy themselves and broaden their vision by visiting overseas historical places and experiencing exotic cultures. (原因)
Overseas travel has a profound effect on both individuals and the society. It can widen our people’s horizons, promote friendship and enhance cultural interaction. In the meantime, it can also boost our social economy and make our society more prosperous and dynamic. It’s good for our nation’s progress. (结论)
