It was late at night, but Kevin could not sleep. His bed was inside a camping tent, and just outside the tent were the fields of Africa, filled with wild animals. His parents slept soundly in another bed across from him. He wondered how they could be so calm. What if a lion came into their tent? He was very frightened. It took a long time before Kevin finally fell asleep.

When the sun came up, he felt his mother's hand on his head. \"Morning, Kcvin!\" she said, \"Time to wake up and go on that a safari.\" Before they left America, his parents had explained to him that a safari was a long drive through nature, usually in Africa. During a safari you can see lions and zebras living free, instead of cooped up (限制) in a zoo. \"What if we get close to a lion?\" Kevin asked.

\"Oh darling,\" she said. \"Nothing will happen to us if we listen to our guide. \"

The jeep took off along a dirt road. After a little while Kevin saw something move out of the corner of his eye. \"Wait!\" he said. \"I see something!\"

16、My kids and I were heading into the supermarket over the weekend. On the way, we saw a man holding a piece of paper that said, “Lost my job. Family to feed.”

At this store, a scene like this is not normal. My 10-year-old son noticed him and made a comment(评论) on how bad it must be to have to stand outside in the cold wind.

In the store, I asked each of my kids to pick something they thought our “friend” there would like. They got apples, a sandwich and a bottle of juice. Then my 17-year-old son suggested giving him a gift card. I thought about it. We didn’t have much money ourselves, but … well, sometimes giving from our need instead of our abundance(充裕) is just what we need to do! All the kids declared(宣称) something they could do away with for the week.

When we handed him the bag of food, he lit up and thanked us with wet eyes. When I handed him the gift card, saying he could use it for whatever his family might need, his eyes were filled with tears.

This has been a wonderful experience for our family. For days the kids have been looking for others we can help! Things would have played out so differently if I had simply said, “No, we really don’t have money to give more.” Stepping out not only helped a brother in need, it also gave my kids the sweet taste of helping others. It’ll go a long way with them. 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.giving him some food B.giving from our need C.giving him a postcard D.giving from our abundance 2.Which is the right order of what happened in the story? a. The man was thankful with tears.

b. Each child picked some food for the man in the store. c. A poor man lost his job and asked people for help. d. All kids did away with something and gave him a gift card.

e. They saw the poor man outside the supermarket and took pity on him. A.c-e-d-b-a B.c-e-b-d-a C.e-c-d-b-a D.e-c-b-d-a 3.What can we infer(推测) from the last paragraph? A.They will try their best to help more people in the future. B.They won’t help more people because they can't afford to do so. C.They had helped many people before offering this poor man help. D.If mother had said NO, the kids would have helped in a different way

experts predict (预测) what people will be like in 1,000 years.

We’ll be about 1.83~2.13 metres tall because of improved nutrition (营养) and medical science. Our arms and fingers will get longer to reduce the need to reach too far.

We’ll have smaller brains, maybe because computers will help us memorize and think most of the things.

There will be larger eyes and smaller mouths. And there may be fewer teeth as softer food needs less chewing and biting. We could even get our nutrition from liquids or pills in the future.

We can expect other great changes too. Everyone will have the same shape of noses. That’s because climate will have less influence on noses with the help of air conditioning and central heating. Besides, we will have more wrinkles (皱纹) as a result of looking at our electronic devices.

We also may end up with saggy (松弛的) necks because extra sun will cause loose skin. And there will be darker skin as people move around the planet and races (种族) mix. 根据材料内容选择最佳答案,并将其标号填入题前括号内。 1.Why will people become taller in 1,000 years? A.Because there will be the newest technology.
