1.这两个词都是far的比较级,在英式英语中这两个词皆可表示距离,有时可以换用。例如:

We had to travel farther〔further〕 than I had expected.我们只好走得比我们预计的更远。

2.在美式英语中,表示地点上的距离只能用farther,不能用further。
